Jamie Insall: Former Hibs striker brands Kilmarnock 'terrible' after cup draw

Former Hibs striker Jamie Insall has taken a swipe at Kilmarnock after the clubs were drawn together in the quarter-finals of the Betfred Cup.

Hibs will travel to Rugby Park next month to try and book their spot in the semi-finals after a nervy 5-3 extra-time win over Greenock Morton at Easter Road on Saturday.

Killie also needed extra-time to see off Hamilton. Dom Thomas’ strike have them a narrow 1-0 win to set up their last eight encounter with the Hibees.

Insall, who spent two years at Hibs without making a competitive first team appearance, was part of the Connah’s Quay side that shocked Killie in the Europa League qualifiers this seasos, winning 2-0 at Rugby Park to progress after a 1-0 defeat in Wales.

And Insall couldn’t resist rubbing that result in once again after Angelo Alessio’s team were paired with his former club.

“Don’t worry Hibs drawing Kilmarnock in the cup they are terrible” he tweeted. That prompted quite the reaction from Killie fans on twitter as you can imagine, with most of the responses not fit for publication.

Insall then clarified that he didn’t in fact “hate Kilmarnock” but did point out he was given stick himself before Connah’s Quay’s match against them.

“Don’t hate Kilmarnock...hated the fact I got abused coming on the pitch, booed, being told my mother is a sl*t, calling me a drug addict. I’m so respectful but...sh*t happens.”

The Betfred Cup clash is due to be played on either Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 or Thursday 26 September.
