Jamie Hamilton Brighton chance shows Accies can still reap the rewards of youth set up says Ziggy Gordon

Former star Ziggy Gordon admits heaped praise on Hamilton Accies for their top youth production line after Jamie Hamilton looks set to be the next break-out talent.

The 17-year-old defender has been invited to Premier League side Brighton this week but chairman Allan Maitland told Lanarkshire Live Sport it was not a trial and no transfer had been discussed.

Gordon, who worked under current Seagulls assistant Billy Reid while he was gaffer at New Douglas Park , was brought through by the Lanarkshire side alongside the likes of James McArthur and James McCarthy as a teenager.

He was delighted to see the trend continue at the club.

Gordon, who is playing in Australia for the Central Coast Mariners, said: “Obviously it’s well documented and known that Accies give youth a chance almost out of necessity, but that’s what sets them apart.

“That’s why so many talented youths wanted to join the club.

“They reap the benefits later.”

He also praised former boss Reid, and reckons that Hamilton will receive the best advice before he makes any move down south.

Gordon added: “He [Billy] game me my first opportunity; he was the first manager to really believe in me at a first team environment.

“I’ll always be grateful to him.

“If Jamie has a decision I’m sure he’ll be well advised in what to do and what is best for his development.

“I wouldn’t dare give an opinion on that.”
