Jamie Gillan practices at kicker, nails 60-yard FG

Could the solution to the Cleveland Browns’ kicking woes already be on the roster? While it sure doesn’t seem like either Greg Joseph or Austin Seibert can handle the job, to quote Yoda from The Empire Strikes Back, “There is another.”

That would be Jamie Gillan. The undrafted rookie punter tried his leg at kicking in Tuesday’s practice in Berea. And the “Scottish Hammer” delivered.

In his first real opportunity to show what he could do as a placekicker, Gillan strutted out and nailed a 60-yard field goal. That’s longer than any kick Joseph or Seibert have made all summer.

His kicking might be new for the Browns, but Gillan served as both the punter and placekicker in college for Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He was not terribly accurate for the Golden Lions, making just 20 of 29 field goal attempts as a senior and only 46 of 74 for his four-year career.

Gillan has been exclusively working at punter and holder all summer, and has done a very good job of proving he has legit NFL talent.
