Jamie Foxx 'to return as Electro opposite Tom Holland in Spider-Man 3'

Hollywood star Jamie Foxx will reportedly reprise his villainous role as Electro in Tom Holland's third solo Spider-Man film.

Foxx previously played the role of Electro/Max Dillon in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opposite Andrew Garfield's incarnation of Spider-Man/Peter Parker.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jamie will now be back as the super-charged Electro in the upcoming superhero sequel.

No further storyline details were given, but fans will be very surprised to hear of a repeated casting between the two iterations of the Spider-Man universe.

The publication also reports that returning alongside Holland are supporting cast members Zendaya as MJ, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May Parker, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home is expected to begin filming this Autumn in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mirror Online has reached out to Jamie and Sony Pictures for comment.

Foxx is not the first face from previous Spider-Man films to return in the Holland films.

Far From Home contained an end credits scene that saw J.K. Simmons reprise his role as Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson.

In the scene, Jameson was involved in the outing of Spider-Man's true identity as Peter Parker to the world via a doctored video from the followers of Mysterio ( Jake Gyllenhaal ) that inaccurately portrayed Spider-Man as a murderer.

What this means for Spidey and his relationship with MJ in the third outing remains to be seen.

Could Electro's appearance throw an added complication to Peter's perilous personal life?

Meanwhile, Jamie's most recent superhero outing was the film Project Power on Netflix, which he starred in alongside The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Jamie can next be heard voicing the lead character in Pixar Animation Studios' new film Soul, which will be shown as part of the BFI London Film Festival 2020 in the UK this month.

The Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel currently has no release date.
