Jamie Dornan urges fans to support Belfast tot Dáithí who is waiting for new heart

Jamie Dornan has urged his fans to support a Belfast toddler who is currently waiting on a new heart.

The Co Down actor shared the urgent appeal on his Instagram page asking fans to get behind the campaign to help West Belfast tot Dáithí Mac Gabhann and others like him.

The four-year-old has been waiting on the gift of a new heart for almost three years and the campaign Donate 4 Dáithí, set up by his parents, has helped keep the important conversation around organ donation at the forefront of people's minds.

Hollywood actor Dornan is the latest to get behind the campaign, earlier this week Line of Duty stars Martin Compston, otherwise known as Steve Arnott in the BBC series , shared Dáithí's story on his personal Instagram account - the show's Dot Cottan and Ryan also Pilkington followed suit.

Speaking to Belfast Live about the campaign reaching far and wide, Dáithí's dad Máirtín said: "It's brilliant and we are just delighted. It did have a domino effect and it just spreads that message of the power of talking about organ donation."

Ballymurphy boy Dáithí, was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which essentially means he only has half a working heart.

His parents have campaigned tirelessly to urge to join the organ donation register as well as trying and change Northern Ireland's current system for organ donation. At present, NI is the only part of the UK without a soft opt-out option.

Máirtín explained: " In Dáithí’s case, children wait a lot longer and are more likely to die on the list than adults. Anything that helps normalise the talk around organ donation and that will eventually lead to the increase of organs, can only be positive and will be welcomed wholeheartedly by us. We will continue to spread the positive message of organ donation to encourage people to join the register and to say Yes I Donate."
