Jamie Dornan's odds slashed to win an Oscar despite criticism of latest release Wild Mountain Thyme

Jamie Dornan has emerged as a leading fancy to win an Oscar in the future, despite online critics slamming his Irish accent in his latest release.

The first trailer for Dornan and Emily Blunt's new Ireland-set picture "Wild Mountain Thyme" was released on Tuesday and soon the conversation turned to the Co Down native and his fellow actors' attempt at a Southern Irish accent, with many saying it was 'awful'.

One critic on Twitter said: "What awfulness is THIS! What time period is it even set in? And Jamie Dornan is Irish, but sounds like he’s eaten a box of lucky charms."

Even Dublin Airport's Twitter account said they were calling the 'accent police' posting: "There’s fashion police Grammar police We even have airport police Is there such a thing as accent police? If so, somebody better call ‘em. On the upside, Ireland looks nice."

But it seems it hasn't put punters off backing him to win the most coveted award in the industry in the future.

The Fifty Shades of Grey star was given a 33/1 chance by BoyleSports following a rise in requests, but his odds were soon snapped up and the Holywood man is now just 16/1 to pick up an Oscar by the end of 2025.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Jamie Dornan is always a big hit and with a return to the big screen imminent, punters are backing him to win an Oscar.

"The handsome actor is 16/1 from 33/1 to bag an Academy Award by the end of 2025 following strong support, despite the social media reaction to the accents in his new trailer.”
