Jamie Codd calls time on point-to-point career after 972nd winner

Jamie Codd has called time on his record breaking point-to-point career after riding a winner at Tattersalls today.

After a 972nd winner between the flags on the Denis Murphy-trained Supreme Gift in a four-year-old maiden, Codd retires as the second winning-most point-to-point rider in the history of the sport.

The Wexford man also has the distinction of being the only modern day rider to ride all six winners on a card between the flags.

But the jockey will still continue riding under rules and renew his annual duel with Patrick Mullins for the champion amateur title.

The pair fought out a thrilling finish to this year's race at this month's Punchestown Festival, with Mullins just edging the title.

Among many successes on the biggest stages, Codd has ten Cheltenham Festival victories to his name, and he is heavily involved in the breeding and training side of the game.

He is widely recognised as one of the finest amateur riders of his generation.
