Jamie Carragher was not impressed by two Tottenham players in the defeat against Manchester City

It was not a night to remember for Tottenham Hotspur as they lost out 3-0 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last night.

Spurs were well beaten by the Premier League leaders, with Ilkay Gundogan continuing his fine recent goalscoring form to net twice at the Etihad Stadium, after Rodri had opened the scoring from the penalty spot for Pep Guardiola's side.

The penalty was awarded after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg collided with Gundogan in the box, with referee Paul Tierney giving the spot kick, which was confirmed by the video assistant referee.

But while Jose Mourinho and some pundits, including former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe, bemoaned the decision, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has been critical of Hojbjerg's role in the incident.

“It’s clumsy, very clumsy (from Hojbjerg to give away the pen),” said Carragher. “The goalkeeper may be actually disappointed in that (getting a hand to the penalty).

“It’s so clumsy (from Hojbjerg). He’s actually remonstrating with the referee. I mean what’s he doing?"

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris did get a hand to Rodri's penalty, but was unable to keep it out, while he also failed to keep out Gundogan's effort early in the second half as the German midfielder's shot went past the Frenchman, despite him getting a foot to it.

And Carragher was not impressed with the goalkeeper's performance, with the former Liverpool defender critical of the 34-year-old after the game.

“Hugo Lloris, who was awful in midweek, hasn’t been much better [against City]," he said.

“He should have saved the penalty. And he should have saved that as well. On his (Gundogan’s) weak foot. He toe-pokes it really. He’s just not strong enough to keep it out. Very reminiscent of his performance in midweek.”
