Jamie Carragher urges Jurgen Klopp to make ruthless Liverpool selection call for Wolves clash

Jamie Carragher has called on Jurgen Klopp to continue to select Diogo Jota ahead of Roberto Firmino.

Since returning from a knee injury last week that had kept the former Wolves man out since December, Jota has started the Reds' last two games.

And although Firmino has been crucial to Liverpool’s success over the past few seasons, Carragher has called for Klopp to keep faith with the 24-year-old.

While the Liverpool great is also of the opinion that the Brazilian, who last scored for the Reds on Boxing Day, has only kept his place in the starting line-up in recent weeks due to Jota’s injury.

He said: "I have been calling for that a while. I think Firmino has been fortunate that Jota has been out for so long because I think he was on the verge of breaking that front three up, really."

Before the Kop icon continued in a chat with CBS Sports: "It’s just interesting that he went central.

“I think, at the weekend, it was Salah who went through the middle and Jota was in a wide position.

"But Jota is a bigger goal threat, right at this moment. We know Firmino brings other things.

"But to just think that Liverpool need to get as many goalscorers as possible on the pitch because the midfield players don’t score, the full-backs create and they have lost Van Dijk.

"Jota needs to be on that pitch."
