Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool can elevate their reputation further if they are able to win another Premier League title in a different fashion this season.
And the Reds legend feels Sunday's visit from league leaders Manchester United should be viewed "an opportunity as much as a threat" for Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool had led the way at the summit prior to Tuesday night when United squeezed past Burnley at Turf Moor thanks to Paul Pogba's second-half strike.
After winning the title last season in a record-quick time of 31 games, Carragher says the champions have a much sterner test on their hands this time around as they aim to retain the crown.
But the iconic former centre-back senses a chance for Klopp's side to cement their legacy by winning the title in a hard-fought fashion.
Writing in his column for The Telegraph, Carragher said: "From Liverpool’s perspective, the challenge from United should be seen as an opportunity as much as a threat.
"For the past three years, the Premier League has been won by swashbucklers. This year, it will be won by grinders.
"We know Liverpool can win the title with a swagger. If they eke out a title, it will raise their status even higher.
"So while United fans may look to Anfield and feed their belief about what might be achieved this season, Liverpool’s should find inspiration from Old Trafford."
Carragher also thinks that Klopp's champions can look at the teams built by Alex Ferguson at United for guidance as they aim to secure a second successive Premier League title after ending a 30-year wait for one back in June.
"Liverpool are at a point in their development under Klopp where there is much to be learned and admired from the manner in which Sir Alex Ferguson turned the end of a three-decade wait for a title into an extended period of title success," he added.
"When the honours board is read and supporters see Ferguson’s 13 league titles, few remember how gruelling many of those campaigns were.
"Our memories play tricks and we like to think of his all-conquering side as stampeding over every challenger. That is not how it was.
"Despite recent setbacks, Klopp’s side remains well placed to defend the title. They are still the team to beat.
"United understand that better than anyone. That’s why every meeting between the clubs - no matter what their positions - carries so much meaning."
