Jamie Carragher tells Chelsea to ‘sneer’ at a Tottenham team who ‘not done anything yet’

Jamie Carragher insists Antonio Conte’s new-look Tottenham have “not done anything yet” ahead of Sunday’s huge clash with Chelsea.

Beaten four times by Thomas Tuchel’s side last season, Spurs are being tipped for success this time around after an ambitious summer transfer window.

Traveling to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Conte could make an early statement in the battle to be considered London’s leading club this season, with Arsenal also showing an improvement.

Still, as disappointing as Chelsea have been of late, this is still a team who have won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, while reaching both domestic cup finals last season.

Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly have been added to the squad this summer and provide real quality, albeit Tuchel is yet to have much of a chance to bed them all in.

While plenty is expected of Spurs this season, Carragher has stressed that Conte’s side still need to prove their worth.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, the Sky Sports pundit said: “If I was associated with Chelsea — the reigning club world champions, remember — I would treat these predictions of a London power shift with a sneer.

“The ‘new’ Spurs have not done anything yet, despite the hype this summer, and it speaks volumes of their struggles in recent seasons that their current aspirations are essentially to return to where they were under Mauricio Pochettino.”
