Jamie Carragher teases Gary Neville with brilliant 'government' put down

Jamie Carragher returned a tongue-in-cheek jibe from Gary Neville by suggesting his Sky Sports colleague is trying to be the UK Prime Minister.

The two pundits have often teased each other in the past, as their former on-pitch rivalry with Liverpool and Man Utd has spilled over to the TV studio.

Both men have been providing daily insight into footballs reaction to the coronavirus crisis on Sky Sports' The Football Show.

Neville has been openly vocal about the lack of communication from Premier League chiefs, as well as regularly calling out the UK government for its perceived failings.

In addition, his free time is largely occupied by juggling his various business ventures, including his duties as co-owner of Salford United.

Meanwhile, to quell some of the lockdown-related boredom, Carragher has been coming up with regular quizzes and challenges for viewers to test their knowledge - much to Neville's amusement.

As Carragher set his latest test on Tuesday, Neville quipped: "Has he got nothing better to do than make up these challenges?"

Before Carragher hit back: "Have you got nothing better to do than try and run the Premier League and government."

Neville called out the Premier League again on Sunday, suggesting top-flight officials are scared of putting themselves forward to lead football's return after coronavirus.

He wrote on Twitter : "The PL are having a CV nightmare. They keep spouting Health First but then brief constantly 'We have to Re-Start'. I'd respect them more if they said 'We accept the increase in Health Risk but it's one we are willing to take'. They won't as they are frightened to death!"

If the campaign cannot be re-started, Carragher's old side Liverpool could be denied their first domestic title in 30 years.

One scenario being mooted is for the season to be ended, but Liverpool still awarded the trophy.

And while Neville admitted Man Utd's rivals deserved to be crowned champions, he is still planning to have a laugh at Carragher's expense if Liverpool cannot finish all their fixtures.

"I think I'd have my little asterisk t-shirt printed, or a little asterisk badge for the season on Sky next season, just for a bit of fun," Neville said.

"Look, they deserve to win the league, they're the best team in the league. And they will rightly I think at some point get awarded with the Premier League medal. But it won't stop us having a little bit of a joke in the next 20 years."
