Jamie Carragher spots Liverpool's 'big problem' in draw with Tottenham

Jamie Carragher has claimed Tyler Morton was ‘left on his own too often’ during Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Sunday.

The 19-year-old midfielder started the Premier League clash in north London after Thiago Alcantara was ruled out with a suspected positive Covid test, Reds skipper Jordan Henderson also missed out through illness.

In a pulsating contest Harry Kane put Spurs in front with a well taken goal, however Liverpool were level before half-time thanks to Diogo Jota’s close range header.

The Reds took the lead in the 69th minute after Robertson headed home following a quick counter attack, but Spurs equalised through Son Heung-min after the South Korean forward capitalised on a rare Alisson error.

Moments later the visitors were reduced to 10 men after Robertson was dismissed following a rash lung at Emerson Royal.

Morton endured a difficult afternoon in a somewhat chaotic game, and Carragher attributed that to Liverpool’s lack of depth and their attacking approach throughout the contest

"I think they will be disappointed that they went 2-1 up but Tottenham should’ve won the game," he said on Sky Sports during the post match analysis.

"You look at the XG, the big chances they had it could’ve gone either way but the chances Liverpool gave up, Liverpool had a big problem in midfield. Maybe understandable, completely different midfield to what we saw in midweek and I felt at times Tyler Morton, I felt for him a little bit.

"I thought he looked a little bit exposed, left on his own, at times and Liverpool the way they played today was almost two centre-backs and Tyler Morton trying to control Kane and Son and then midfield runners and that’s where the chances came from.

"I thought the midfield was the big problem and they didn’t give help to that young lad, he was left on his own too often."

The draw leaves the Reds three points behind league leaders Manchester City.
