Jamie Carragher speaks out on Ainsley Maitland-Niles as he makes Everton transfer prediction

Jamie Carragher has sympathised with Ainsley Maitland-Niles after Arsenal blocked his transfer to Everton.

The 24-year-old attempted to force through a move to Everton by pleading to be let go on an Instagram post on Monday in which he wrote: “All I want to do is go where I’m wanted & where I’m going to play @Arsenal.”

Former Liverpool defender Carragher, who was a boyhood Blue, told Sky Sports : “I think Everton are trying to bring in a couple of faces late in the window” before adding on Maitland-Niles: “I do feel for him. He just wants to play football.

“It looks like there's no future for him at Arsenal and they’ve blocked a move at the last minute.

“Arsenal were using Cedric and Chambers at right back. If they want to use him, play him.”

Reports claim Maitland-Niles could still leave Arsenal today with the suggestion that the Gunners are still waiting for a compelling offer and have no intention of keeping the England international against his will if such a bid is received.

Maitland-Niles has turned out 123 times for Arsenal, scoring three goals.

A versatile performer, who can slot in in either full-back positions while also able to play as a central midfielder or winger, he spent the second part of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at West Bromwich Albion, making 12 appearances.
