Jamie Carragher slams Manchester City defence with incredible Liverpool 'little brother' analogy

Jamie Carragher has slammed Manchester City's defence.

The Liverpool legend made a a scathing assessment of Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones labelling the former as not good enough to play for City and the latter as someone who is fighting for his career.

Otamendi and Stones have a poor record playing alongside each other under Pep Guardiola and their shaky partnership was compounded during a 3-2 loss to Norwich City.

Blood Red: Jordan Henderson - 'Everyone wants to beat us'

“Otamendi dives in, he’s done it all his career, he will never change and that’s why he’s not good enough to play for Manchester City,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I’ve never believed he was from day one and nothing I’ve seen in the last four or five years has made me change my mind.

“John Stones, in some ways over the next four or five months is fighting for his career. If it doesn’t go well for him, they’re going to buy someone. I always look at it as a big brother, little brother.

“At Liverpool, [Joel] Matip is the little brother. Matip without [Virgil] van Dijk does not look the same, he feels calm and confident. Pep Guardiola has got two little brothers playing at centre-back.

“They’ve got no help. Laporte is not there to help them, Kompany is not there to help them. At this moment, I don’t think Guardiola wants to put those two on the pitch together but he’s got no option because he hasn’t gone big in the transfer market.”
