Jamie Carragher shows off Man Utd allegiance ahead of Manchester derby

Jamie Carragher has appeared to suggest that he's willing to go a step further than most Liverpool fans this evening - and don a Manchester United shirt during the Manchester derby.

The former Reds defender is in the same unusual position as fans of Jurgen Klopp's side on Wednesday, as they hope for United to take something off their title rivals Manchester City .

Anything but a City win would hand title advantage to the Reds ahead of their final three games of the league season, which begin at home to Huddersfield on Friday evening.

Plenty of United fans have been happy to claim that they hope their team lose, as they'd rather near neighbours City win the league rather than Liverpool end their 29-year top-flight title drought.

Some, though, have stressed that United's players owe them a performance after their dismal showing in the 4-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

And Carragher is hoping that will be the case as he shared a photo of himself in a United shirt on his Instagram Story.

The image appears to be from back in August, when Carragher was forced into a United strip by punditry pal Gary Neville following a bet between the pair.

Carragher forced Neville into a Liverpool shirt with Xherdan Shaqiri's name on the back after Neville had been extremely critical of Liverpool's Swiss midfielder, but the former United defender forced Carragher into a United top following a previous bet between the pair about former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho.

Carragher and Neville will be on punditry duty for Wednesday's clash at Old Trafford.
