Jamie Carragher sends message to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard after Rangers win title

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher has sent a message to his Reds mate Steven Gerrard after Rangers were confirmed as winners of the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic could only draw 0-0 with Dundee United on Sunday lunchtime, which was enough for Rangers to be mathematically confirmed as league winners for the first time since 2011.

"It’s huge. They’ve been terrified for the last few years that Celtic were going to break that record of 10 in a row," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

"When Steven Gerrard came in, that was the name of the game - to basically stop Celtic achieving that.

"They’ve come a long way, Rangers. You know the situation they found themselves in a few years ago and it’s been probably too long for them to come back.

"But they’ll be hoping the glory days are back.

"Steven’s done a brilliant job. They were so far behind Celtic when he first came in.

"The European campaigns have been the big boost, certainly financially, to help them reinvest in the squad so he could build and improve it.

"So the European campaigns have had a huge impact on Rangers winning the title.

"It will be difficult for Celtic to bounce back from but you’ve seen what they’ve done success-wise. Rangers couldn’t compete for a long time because of the financial situation."

Not only have Rangers confirmed the league title without suffering a defeat, they have also progressed well in the Europa League and face Slavia Praha in the last-16.

Progress further in that competition and they could be facing some of the English contingent who remain in the tournament, in Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.

They will also be in Champions League qualifying for next season having won the league.
