Jamie Carragher sends Cristiano Ronaldo warning to Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku and Mohamed Salah

Jamie Carragher thinks that Cristiano Ronaldo will rival Mohamed Salah, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku for the Golden Boot this season after he completed a summer return to Manchester United.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner made his second United debut at the weekend, finding the net twice against early strugglers Newcastle.

His signing comes with a lot of expectation, but as one of the greatest to have played the game, Ronaldo looks set to take the Premier League by storm once again.

Carragher thinks that if he does help United to finish top of the division, he will go down as their best ever player.

“I think if Cristiano Ronaldo can take United to the title or the Champions League in the next two years, I think he elevates himself, if he can be elevated higher United’s eyes, to the greatest they’ve ever had,” he said, whilst speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“If he can be the player to bring the title back after 10 years, not exactly what Cantona did - that was 26 years- but I think that elevates him to a level, number one for me.”

Carragher continued by explaining that he will continue to score goals at Old Trafford, and thus, he will rival Salah, Kane and Lukaku for the golden boot.

“For Manchester United right now, no doubt [his signing] it makes them a better team, you see his record for goals. But when you buy a 36-year-old to play in that team and he has the records he has, it’s about winning right now, not about building for anything else.

“There’s no doubt for me, he’ll be challenging Salah, Kane and Lukaku for the golden boot.”

All four challengers have got off to goalscoring starts so far, with Salah and Lukaku both on three goals already. But there’s no doubt that they’ll be wary of Ronaldo moving forward.
