Jamie Carragher sends clear message to Arsenal board as pressure mounts on Mikel Arteta

Former Liverpool defender turned pundit Jamie Carragher has sent a clear message to the Arsenal board over Mikel Arteta's future.

Pressure is mounting on Arteta following Arsenal's disappointing start to the Premier League season, the Gunners left 15th in the table with just 11 points from 13 games.

Arsenal's latest setback came in the form of a north London derby defeat to Spurs, which did not go down well amid an already downbeat supporter base following that sub-par start to the campaign.

Questions are now being asked of Arteta despite the Spaniard only being appointed in December, but for pundit Carragher, talk of a new manager at the Emirates Stadium is premature.

"I really like Mikel Arteta," he said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football. "There’s a lot of nonsense around the club - bringing players, buying players.

"I think some signings were a joke. In terms or bringing Willian in, [David] Luiz in, Cedric [Soares] in. Is Kia Joorabchian making signings at the club?

"Mikel Arteta has brought in [Thomas] Partey and Gabriel [Magalhaes]. They look like Arsenal's two best players at this moment, certainly early stages this season.

"They've had four managers and three CEOs since 2018. Just stick with Arteta. But there’s going to be a lot of pain for Arsenal."

Arteta is likely to get time to turn things around with the Gunners showing what they are capable of in the Europa League, albeit against arguably lesser opposition.

The Spaniard was only given the full reins in September when his role changed from 'head coach' to 'manager', so it is likely he will be afforded another full transfer window to improve Arsenal's fortunes.
