Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that Man City are still the ‘team to beat’ in the Premier League this season.
City have had a mixed start to the league, losing the opening game against Tottenham and drawing at home against Southampton.
Despite that, Pep Guardiola ’s side travel to Liverpool knowing that a win will see them go joint top of the table going into the second international break of the season.
Ahead of the game, Carragher says that the game will be viewed as more important in the title race by Jurgen Klopp’s side.
“I think it’s Liverpool, just for the fact that the games City have already played,” he said on Sky Sports Super Sunday.
“They’ve had a tough start and they’re still obviously right at the top, if they win they go joint top with Chelsea but they’ve played Spurs, been away to Chelsea and Liverpool.”
Liverpool will be looking to reclaim the title from City this season with the duo vying it out for the accolade over the last three seasons.
It is City who have come out on top in two of those seasons and Carragher says that Liverpool need to be watching City should they wish to reclaim the title at the end of this campaign.

“I think if Liverpool are to reclaim the title, looking back on past experience when they won the Premier League they need to create a gap with City,” he added.
“Four points at this early stage is a decent gap, they’re still the team to beat.”
