Jamie Carragher says Liverpool title rivals Man City are the best team in Europe despite Norwich defeat

Jamie Carragher has stated that Manchester City are the best team in Europe ahead of Liverpool, despite the Reds being the Champions of Europe and sitting top of the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp's side opened up the five-point margin after beating Newcastle United 3-1 in Saturday's early kick-off and that advantage was maintained as City suffered a shock defeat to Norwich City later in the day.

Liverpool, fresh from their Champions League victory in May and winning their opening five league matches of the season, have shown themselves to be the side to beat so far this term - with City previously dropping points against Spurs.

However, according to former defender Carragher, Pep Guardiola's side are still the best side on the continent despite the surprise result against the Canaries.

"I think City are the best team in Europe and LFC a very close second!" He wrote on Twitter after the match.

"Winning the Champions League doesn't mean you are the best team in Europe as it's a cup competition and there is no way we were the best team in 2005!"

Liverpool will now turn their attention towards two big matches in the next week, opening the defence of their Champions League crown away to Napoli in midweek before clashing with Chelsea next weekend.
