Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have sent 'major message' after using advantage over Premier League title rivals

Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have sent out a title message to their rivals following wins over Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Reds were in superb form on Monday evening as they ran out 3-1 winners over an Arsenal side that had previously looked much-improved under Mikel Arteta.

Following Manchester City's defeat to Leicester City, it means Jurgen Klopp's side have already opened up a gap over their rivals early on in their title defence.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher says it is too early to judge who will be challenging Liverpool at the top of the table this season.

Yet he argued that the Reds have had a big advantage carried over from last season due to the fact they were not involved in a European competition in August.

"It’s difficult to judge teams," the former Liverpool defender said.

"We looked at Man United in the first game of the season, we didn’t go strong on them, even City yesterday, you’re still a little bit unsure.

"I think Liverpool have an advantage that the two teams I’ve mentioned, who have struggled to start with, they were in Europe.

"I always thought Liverpool had an advantage because they knew when the season was finished, even teams in Europe, they didn’t know when it was finishing. You could go out the next day.

"I thought that would play into Liverpool’s hands somehow.

"The first game, they didn’t quite look at it, but to respond with the performances they have done against two of the top-six rivals, I just think it’s sent a major message out in these last two games that Liverpool are gonna take some stopping."
