Jamie Carragher's sarcastic response to Man City Premier League charges

Jamie Carragher has wasted no time in taking aim at Manchester City after the English champions were charged by the Premier League for alleged financial regulation breaches.

The champions have been under scrutiny by the League for alleged profit and sustainability breaches, the investigation resulting in charges brought against the club for the 2009/10 campaign onwards.

A Premier League statement released this morning read: "In accordance with Premier League Rule W.82.1, the Premier League confirms that it has today referred a number of alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules by Manchester City Football Club to a Commission under Premier League Rule W.3.4.

Reacting quickly to the news, former Liverpool defender Carragher retweeted the full Premier League league statement and sarcastically wrote: "This can’t be right, Man City bring in more commercial revenue than Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Man Utd & Liverpool."

Only last month, City topped the Deloitte Football Money League, reaffirming their status as the richest football club in the world. The Abu-Dhabi owned club headed the table for the second consecutive year, with revenue increased to £619million. more than half of that figure was derived from sponsorship and other commercial partnerships.

Pep Guardiola's side have won four of the last five Premier League titles, but if found by an independent commission to have breached the alleged regulations, could face a range of sanctions including fines, retrospective points deductions, being stripped of honours and even relegation.

Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2013/14, wining the title on the last day of the season by two points.
