Real Madrid’s former president Ramon Calderon has backed up Jamie Carragher’s assertion that Harry Kane may have “missed the boat” on a mega-money switch to Real Madrid.
The Tottenham talisman has three years remaining on his current deal and has shown few signs of forcing a move.
That has done little to stop speculation linking the England captain with a huge transfer however.
Real Madrid, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked, particularly in the midst of Spurs’ disappointing campaign.
Under Jose Mourinho, Kane was left helpless as his side were dumped out of the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb.
It means they now face a battle to secure Champions League football – a competition Kane will be desperate to play in.
Now aged 27, Sky Sports pundit Carragher recently suggested that clubs would be unwilling to part with the kind of cash that it would take to even open negotiations with Spurs chairman Daniel levy.
"I think he'll (Salah) be there (at Liverpool ) for the next few years. I think he's in a similar position to Harry Kane," said the Reds legend on his former teammate Robbie Fowler's podcast.
"They're possibly the two best goal scorers in the Premier League right now.
"They're at an age where no-one is going to pay big money for them.
"I think they've probably missed the boat if they ever did want to go; whether that is to a Real Madrid or a Barcelona. Whether it's Harry Kane going to Man Utd or Man City.
"For both of those players, I think you're talking £120m plus, maybe more, and I just don't think anyone will spend that much on players of that age now."
And now Calderon, who owned the club until 2009, has hinted that Los Blancos will be unable to be in the market for big-ticket transfers, instead focusing on regenerating the Bernabeu.
He told talkSPORT: "There are always rumours at this time of the season.
"They are talking about Mbappe, Haaland… too many players.
“We are not in the best form economically-speaking because we are refurbishing our stadium spending a lot of money.
"It will be difficult to spend money in the summer. We always try to sign good players, we’ve been doing that for years."
