Jamie Carragher's generous gesture to Liverpool charity for needy kids

A charity which helps out deprived kids is asking the city's Premier League footballers to follow Marcus Rashford's example and dig deep to help needy children.

Children's charity OLLY (Our Lost Love Years) founder Jean Taylor put out the call after the organisation ran out of funding to continue delivering lunch boxes and meals to children during the coronavirus pandemic.

She wrote to individual footballers and got an immediate acknowledgement from Jamie Carragher, who agreed to donate £1,000 to the cause.

Jean said: "We know only too well that deprivation and poverty exist right here in our city, because we have over 400 children on our books.

"Marcus Rashford campaigned to our Prime Minister to extend an U-turn on school meal vouchers so it shows what can be done.

"We have some of the biggest names in football right here in our city, among them some who lived in communities where deprivation is rife and now have gone on to a far better life.

"Once you have names of importance backing the cause it will go a lot further."

As well as delivering free meals, OLLY organises days out, breaks away and camping holidays for less fortunate children.

Jean Taylor was inspired to set up OLLY by her grandson Joseph Taylor, whose mum Chantel was tragically murdered at the age of 27.

Joseph asked for a place where children who have experienced the loss of a loved one due to acts of murder or violence could come together and talk.
