Jamie Carragher reveals his 'big problem' with Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea fans will completely agree

Callum Hudson-Odoi is still yet to start for Chelsea after landing a place on the bench yet again for the clash at Cardiff City.

It’s something that did not go down well with Chelsea fans considering the fact that Eden Hazard was left out of the starting line-up too.

Pedro and Willian were chosen above Hudson-Odoi, whose recent starring role for England against Montenegro had increased the demand for him to earn his first Premier League start.

But Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had a different type of criticism on Maurizio Sarri relating to Hudson-Odoi.

Rather than hit out at his selections, Carragher slammed Sarri for his comments on not fully watching Hudson-Odoi’s aforementioned England debut.

Maurizio Sarri sends a message to Chelsea fans over their chants during Cardiff win

“My big problem with what Sarri said about Hudson-Odoi is that he’d only watched 20 minutes of the England game,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“This is a lad who is making his full international debut. Why aren’t you watching the full game? He may be watching a lot of his Chelsea team-mates but you don’t need to watch them. They’re 27, 28, 29, this is a young kid. Can he handle the spotlight of playing for England?”

Carragher went further in his criticism of Sarri’s approach considering the constant rumours linking Hudson-Odoi with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Neil Warnock reveals what officials said after mistake leads to Chelsea comeback

“This is a lad you’re trying to keep at the club. To then dismiss his international debut, possibly the biggest thing that’s ever happened to him at a young age, to just dismiss it, and say ‘the 20 minutes I did watch he didn’t play well,’ I can imagine the people above Sarri just shaking their head,” Carragher added.

“I would not be surprised if the people at the top were on the phone to his agent trying to calm the situation down. You can imagine how bad you feel. You don’t dismiss it. And if you didn’t watch it, be clever, use your brain, say you did watch it and add a bit of a gee-up.”
