Jamie Carragher responds to Gary Neville's Liverpool jibe as date for Premier League return confirmed

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has mocked his former Manchester United counterpart Gary Neville ahead of the Premier League's return.

Significant steps towards resuming the 2019/20 campaign next month were made on Thursday, with the Premier League then confirming that June 17 has been set for the first matches to take place before a full round of fixtures on the weekend of June 19.

That could open the door for Liverpool to win the title against Everton if Arsenal do Jurgen Klopp's side a favour and beat Manchester City.

Even if that doesn't occur, the Reds are just a few wins shy of ending a 30-year wait for league glory and it will be a painful watch for Manchester United fans.

Neville has been vocal about the difficulties of seeing Liverpool establish themselves as by far and away the best side in the league this season, having previously admitted he'd prefer the Reds to win the title when Sky Sports wasn't in attendance and he was not on duty.

His uncomfortable position will be a joy for Liverpool fans to watch though and Carragher has poked fun at his Sky colleague, posting a picture of Neville with champagne.

That image was originally posted by the former United defeated when Liverpool suffered defeat against Watford, which brought an end to Liverpool's unbeaten run.
