Jamie Carragher responds to claims Erling Haaland has made Man City worse

Jamie Carragher has rubbished suggestions that Erling Haaland has made Manchester City a worse team.

The Blues head into their clash with Tottenham after defeats to Southampton and rivals Manchester United. They are now eight points adrift of Arsenal, who they play in the FA Cup next week.

Haaland is firmly on course for the Golden Boot having netted 21 goals in 17 Premier League games, form so great that many are branding his three-match barren spell a concern. Some have gone as far as to say the Blues are a worse team with him as the focal point up front, as opposed to the more interchangeable and nimble attackers played in recent years.

However, Carragher disagrees with this theory, although he also does not believe City have enhanced their play with him at the club. He explained to Sky Sports: "I don't think it's either [Haaland in the side making them worse or better]; it means they're different.

“I said that at the start of the season: signing Haaland was no guarantee Manchester City would win the league, it just meant they would be different as a team.

"He will score lots of goals, but how many points City get normally to win a title, which is probably mid-90 points... you can't really get much more than that. They had 100 one season, [but] they're not gonna get over 100 points, I don't care who they've got in the team.

"They were just going to be a different team, they weren't necessarily going to be a better team for me, they were just going to be different. Right now they're going through a bit of indifferent form but I'd expect Manchester City to come back. I'd expect City to beat Spurs."
