Jamie Carragher responds after fans demand apology over Liverpool goal commentary against Tottenham

Jamie Carragher is not backing down over his brilliant celebration after Liverpool scored a last-minute winner against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Reds looked as if they were coming away from Anfield with a point after Lucas Moura equalised Roberto Firmino's early opener.

However, an injury time own-goal which came from the fortunes of Hugo Lloris parrying a Mohamed Salah header into the danger area only for it to hit Toby Alderweireld and trickle across the line saw Jurgen Klopp 's men emerge with a 2-1 victory and move back to the top of the Premier League table .

Liverpool legend Carragher couldn't help but contain his excitement while commentating on the match for Sky Sports.

"Mo Salah you little dancer!", the former defender shouted as the Egyptian star celebrated the dramatic winner with his team-mates.

And despite being criticised on social media by his apparently over-the-top celebrations, Carragher is standing by his actions.

"I don't apologise. I'm a massive Liverpool fan and I'm desperate for them to win the league,” he told Sky Sports .

"Liverpool didn't play well and were lucky. Sometimes in competitions, you start to think 'is our name on it' as Liverpool have had luck today.

"You go back to the Merseyside derby with the (Divock) Origi goal. It was Tottenham that looked more likely to win in the second half but it's been one of those days for Liverpool. As a player, you'd be bouncing into that dressing room at Melwood but they'll know they'd have to improve.

What Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told Mohamed Salah after win against Tottenham

"Again, Liverpool weren't at their best. But Jurgen Klopp called it before the game about how the nerves will play a part at different times. He said that this is the time to enjoy it.

"I can't say many Liverpudlians were enjoying this. History tells you that to win a title, you have to score late winning goals, and Liverpool have done it so often this season."
