Jamie Carragher pleads with Marcelo Bielsa to make Leeds United change after Man United defeat

Jamie Carragher has urged Marcelo Bielsa to vary his tactics with Leeds United following the 6-2 defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League.

Expectations were high for the first meeting between the two historic rivals since February 2004 but the hosts swept the Whites away at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side picked off Leeds on the counter-attack, with Bielsa determined to stick to his laurels with the expansive style of football that he is renowned for.

However, Carragher believes he must adapt to different situations and should not use the same approach every single week.

Manchester United 6-2 Leeds United - Beren Cross reacts

“I’ve loved watching Leeds, I really have. I watched them against Everton at Goodison Park, they were outstanding. The only thing is that there’s nothing critical to say, I’d bring you up on that," he told Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

“My big thing with Bielsa, I’ve loved watching him in the Premier League, he’s been fascinating, but playing the way they do, Gary Neville said they were made for Manchester United, for me, that’s not a positive.

“I’m not a big believer in somebody playing exactly the same way week in, week out, no matter who you are playing against. Some people love that, I don’t, that’s played right into Manchester United’s hands.

“The thing about Leeds and Bielsa, he has got disciples in the Premier League like Pep Guardiola, Mauricio Pochettino in years gone past, and they don’t play exactly the same as him, so it’s not like Bielsa’s way is absolutely perfect and bulletproof.

“There are still things I look at, certainly in that game, like having your midfield empty against Manchester United, who maybe have the best counter-attacking team in the league, I don’t think that’s right.”
