Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool 's victory against Leicester City on Sunday may have provided the defending Premier League champions with an important psychological boost.
Jurgen Klopp 's men took all three points at Anfield thanks to goals from Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Leicester's Jonny Evans, with the Foxes defender heading into his own net during the first half.
The result sees Liverpool extend their unbeaten home run to 64 matches - a new record for the Merseyside club.
Carragher told Sky Sports after the final whistle that Sunday's win could help his former side psychologically, with a number of key players missing from Sunday's game.
He also backed the Reds to continue their strong league form over the coming months despite Klopp's injury woes.
"I think the fact that coming into this game, there was talk of Leicester ending this unbeaten run or Liverpool dropping points," Carragher said.
"Psychologically this feels like a big win. It almost feels like the season starts now. Not just this season, but every season once you get the international football out of the way, teams can get into a real run and gather some real momentum.
"It did feel like a big win, and the fact that Manchester City lost this weekend, who I still feel are Liverpool's biggest title rivals."
The Reds will be hoping to take as many points as possible from their next run of games with a close title race unfolding at the top of the Premier League.
They will face Wolves, Manchester United and Tottenham, the latter on two occasions, between now and Christmas.
Liverpool's next test will be on Wednesday as they welcome Italian outfit Atalanta to town for their UEFA Champions League group stage clash, before a return to domestic action against Brighton and Hove Albion four days later.
