Jamie Carragher picks two Liverpool transfers he'd "be delighted with" this summer

Jamie Carragher has said that he would be “delighted” if Liverpool complete deals for Mason Mount and Alexis Mac Allister but has urged even more business this summer.

The Reds are expected to be busy in the upcoming transfer window, and new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke is anticipated to be at the forefront of any deals. Chelsea star Mount has been linked as Liverpool aim to take advantage of his contractual situation at Stamford Bridge.

Reports have suggested that a deal is also close for Brighton playmaker Alexis Mac Allister after a standout campaign for the Argentine. A fee of £60m is thought to be enough to secure his services.

Carragher appears to be a huge fan of both players and has given the thumbs-up to both deals. Speaking to the Anfield Wrap, he said: “Mason Mount is a funny one in that people always seem a little bit down on him for whatever reason.

“I’ve never got it, I’m a huge fan. He’s a Champions League winner. I really like him. He’s got energy to press, he’d provide a greater goal threat from midfield than we have from Jordan in that position right now.

“Every top manager who’s been at Chelsea has picked him. Plays for England and I think the club have also got to be thinking about that homegrown situation.”

Whilst the former Liverpool defender is convinced that moves for both Mount and Mac Allister would work for the Reds, he believes that more additions are needed elsewhere in the squad.

“If we brought Mac Allister and Mason Mount in I’d be delighted with that,” Carragher added. “I definitely want us to bring a defensive midfield player in as well, because Mount and Mac Allister are more offensive midfield players.

“I don’t think our problem is going forward, our problem is defensively. If we’re gonna get back to where we wanna be, which is challenging Man City and challenging for big trophies, we’ve got to sort ourselves out defensively because that’s been the biggest problem this season.”

Mount would move to Anfield after an 18-year spell with Chelsea. The midfielder began his career with the Blues and has gone on to win the Champions League with the Blues.

Elsewhere, Mac Allister has shone for Brighton over the past few seasons after being signed from Argentinos Juniors. He is currently in the midst of his most prolific season with 12 goals to his name in all competitions.

Both midfielders earned a place for England and Argentina respectively at the World Cup in Qatar - Mac Allister winning the tournament with his nation.
