Jamie Carragher picks three Liverpool youngsters ready to break into first team

Jamie Carragher believes Harvey Elliott, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones are all ready to make the step up to Liverpool's first team.

The Reds have given academy talent several opportunities this term in the various cup competitions.

And some of their young talent have given Jurgen Klopp food for thought as he plans for next season.

The Reds have a star studded squad but could still allow for young talent to blossom.

Jones scored the winner in a Merseysdie derby while Elliott moved from Fulham last summer after becoming the youngest ever top flight player.

Williams has appeared in successive Premier League games but has Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of him in the pecking order.

Nevertheless, Carragher reckons the aforementioned trio can become part of Klopp's plans as they bid to defend their title next term.

"It’s still maybe a bit early for some of them who are really young," he told Sky Sports.

"But you think of Harvey Elliott, who is only 17. Neco Williams and Curtis Jones as well. They’ll probably be squad players. We talk about managers giving young players a chance, but we also say clubs need to invest.

"It’s very hard for clubs to get that balance right but Jurgen Klopp has done that superbly this season.

"He’s given the youngsters plenty of opportunities in cup competitions and they haven’t let him down."

Alexander-Arnold is the only Liverpool academy graduate to make himself as regular since Klopp arrived on Merseyside.

There has been talk, given his ability on the ball, that he could move into midfielder later in his career.

Such a move would open the door for Williams to slot in at right-back.
