Jamie Carragher pays ultimate compliment to Jurgen Klopp and makes Bill Shankly comparison

Jamie Carragher has hailed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, and has compared him to one of the club’s greatest ever managers.

The Reds boss has already established himself as one of the best managers in world football, as shown by winning FIFA’s Best Men’s Coach of the Year award in 2019.

Klopp is also on the verge of helping guide Liverpool to their first league title in 30 years, something which has been craved for decades on the Red half of Merseyside.

A Champions League win, as well as a maiden Club World Cup triumph are in Melwood’s trophy cabinet under Klopp’s stewardship, but it is for another reason why Carragher has praised the Reds boss.

The former defender has compared Klopp to Anfield icon Bill Shankly, saying that Reds fans look to what the German has to say just as they did with Shankly many years ago.

“Like Shankly, the supporters look to what Klopp says about every situation – and he always finds the right words," Carragher is quoted saying in The Mirror.

“Jurgen claims he doesn’t prepare what he’s going to say, but I don’t know if I believe him. He has a great ability to communicate, he has this special quality to say the right thing.

“He brings people with him – and makes people believe in him. Throughout the pandemic, he didn’t ever say anything that crossed the line.

“It wasn’t ever about wanting Liverpool to win the league and not being worried about what the world was going through, although he was so close.

“He always said the right words – not only for Liverpool fans, but for football. Klopp can be very funny, but, on the flipside, when something serious happens, it feels like he is the go-to manager for the league.

“He always nails what needs to be said and how people are feeling.”
