Jamie Carragher outlines what Man City must do to stop Liverpool in the Premier League title race

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has outlined what Manchester City must do to stop his former side in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their first ten games of the season and have opened up a six-point lead on Man City at the top of the league.

Jurgen Klopp's side head to Aston Villa on Saturday while City host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium. Both sides will be looking to continue their fine form before they meet for a huge clash on November 10 at Anfield.

Should Liverpool secure three points against Man City they could be nine points clear at the top and Carragher thinks that they would 'take some stopping' from that position.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained the importance of City getting something at Anfield.

The former defender said: "They've started brilliantly, on the back of what they did last season in the Champions League.

"But it might be difficult to replicate what they did, in terms of the 97 points to almost win the Premier League.

"Both teams were in the same position last year and City came back at them.

"If Liverpool could win the City game, not just for the points, but psychologically, that would put them in a great position.

"In this moment, Liverpool are slight favourites, if they were to reach the international break on the back of two wins, that would put them nine points clear.

"They'd take some stopping then, they'd be big favourites."
