Jamie Carragher outlines biggest issue with VAR during Liverpool vs Wolves drama

VAR was, yet again, the star in the first half of Liverpool's clash with Wolves at Anfield.

The dominating topic of this Premier League season again reared its head in the final five minutes of the first half when both sides found the net.

First referee Anthony Taylor decided that Adam Lallana had handled the ball before it was knocked into the net by Sadio Mane, only for VAR to intervene.

It was decided, seemingly correctly, that the ball had actually struck Lallana's shoulder before Mane fired the ball goalwards, and so Taylor was wrong in disallowing the goal.

Later there was a strong suggestion that handball should actually have initially been given against Virgil van Dijk before he played a long ball forward for Lallana, but again this wasn't considered to be a foul.

Mane's goal stood. 1-0.

And while - at the time at least - most people seemed to suggest that this was a good example of what VAR can do, next came one of those frustrating marginal offside calls that are infuriating fans up and down the Premier League.

Jonny was the unlucky player this time, as it was decided that he had marginally strayed offside in the buildup to Pedro Neto firing into the bottom corner.

Commentating for Sky Sports, Jamie Carragher pinpointed VAR's good and bad as he evaluated the decisions.

Carragher tweeted: "VAR at its best for @LFC goal, at its worst for @Wolves goal??? But what is the answer on really tight offsides with VAR??"

It seems that no-one is really prepared to come up with a solution to something which has become on ongoing issue for many.

So what is the answer?
