Jamie Carragher outlines big 'worry' about Carlo Ancelotti taking Everton job

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has reservations about Everton appointing Carlo Ancelotti as their new manager as he thinks the three-time Champions League manager may not be suited to the role.

The ex-Chelsea ,Real Madrid and Napoli coach is set to fly to London for talks with the Everton board ahead of the Toffees' game against Arsenal on Saturday, and he has been installed as the hot favourite to take the reigns at Goodison Park.

Ancelotti is one of the most successful managers in world football, with the 60-year-old having won a total of 20 trophies with six different clubs, but speaking on Sky Sports Carragher said he is not sure Ancelotti and Everton are the right fit.

"I am surprised that he would take the Everton job, the position they are in," Carragher said. "For them to get a manager of the calibre of Ancelotti would be an unbelievable coup.

"From Ancelotti's point of view, I am not sure he is the man to do the job Everton need. He has managed the top clubs in European football and takes really good teams and adds a little touch to it to make them even better and win trophies.

"Everton fans will be ecstatic but he won't win the league or Champions League with them."

Carragher thinks the Toffees should be aiming for the top four if Ancelotti does take charge, but believes the Italian's age may mean he lacks the intensity to be able to do the job expected of him.

He continued: "The job will be to get them in and around the Champions League places. The real target will be to get them a consistent top six club like they were under David Moyes, and take that step to win a cup.

"Ronald Koeman is a top manager but he didn't suit Everton and lacked the intensity that club needs. That is my worry with Ancelotti- he has had such a great career, the age he is at, taking a job he hasn't done for a long time."
