Jamie Carragher on why Naby Keita is becoming player Liverpool wanted but still isn't showing enough

Jamie Carragher believes that Naby Keita's performance against Southampton showcased a player that Liverpool wanted to bring to the club.

The Reds legend detailed his thoughts on what the Guinean midfielder has brought to the table this season after arriving at Anfield in the summer and said that fans "haven't really seen enough" from him.

Keita scored his first goal for the club against Southampton on Friday night to equalise in the first half before Jurgen Klopp 's side turned the screw in the second period and won 3-1.

The 24-year-old 's travails this season are well documented but he performed well at St Mary's Stadium and grew into the game as it wore on with a direct attacking threat.

Carragher, speaking on Monday Night Football, said: "There's no doubt it’s been a slow burner at the club, a lot more was expected and we haven’t really seen enough.

"But what he did do against Southampton, besides the goal, he actually got in the box and had touches, more than any other Liverpool midfield player this season.

"You see the drive from midfield, the one-twos, that’s the sort of Keita we wanted.

"I still don’t think he was out of this world but it was a sign for things to come, what could be added to this midfield and what Liverpool fans have been waiting for."
