Jamie Carragher names two Liverpool youngsters who can break into first team next season

Jamie Carragher has tipped Liverpool youngsters Neco Williams and Curtis Jones to break into the Reds' first-team next season.

The pair have had a handful of appearances each for the senior side during this campaign, as Jurgen Klopp has put his faith in the club's youth stars.

Both players were involved in the FA Cup wins over Everton and Shrewsbury Town, before the defeat away at Chelsea.

Their crowning moment was the third round victory over Liverpool's Merseyside rivals at Anfield, with Jones curling in the winner.

And Carragher feels they can now take the next step and feature heavily in Klopp's plans going forward.

"The performance against Everton was one of the highlights of the season really," Carragher told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

"A lot of young players, not all will go on to be first-team regulars but you always get one or two who show you and prove to you as a manager that you've got what it takes to step up.

"In Neco Williams and possibly Curtis Jones, I think he can add something to that midfield.

"Liverpool's centre-midfield players have to be able to run. You look at the midfield set-up it always has great energy. That's what I think is the most important thing for Jurgen Klopp.

"That is something Curtis Jones can add to Liverpool."

Jones has arguably been the standout performer from the Reds youth prospects so far this season.

He followed up his winner against Everton with a goal in the first meeting with Shrewsbury, and shows plenty of promise for the future.

But the displays of Williams have also caught the eye, and Carragher feels the full-back has all the qualities to challenge Trent Alexander-Arnold for a starting berth.

Carragher had said earlier: "I think with Trent there's a young lad coming through coming through in Neco Williams who Klopp's giving a go, I think he's now shown he is good enough to be his back-up or his replacement if he's ever out injured."
