Jamie Carragher names player 'who looked like a kid' in Liverpool win over Leeds

Jamie Carragher has criticised Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier for his part in the 6-1 thrashing by Liverpool on Monday.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher was speaking in the Sky Sports studio alongside Brentford's Ben Mee as he admitted to not being 'convinced' by the Leeds stopper.

Javi Gracia's side were terrible defensively in the heavy defeat to the Reds at Elland Road as they remained deep in trouble toward the foot of the Premier League table.

Cody Gakpo was the first to score past Meslier before doubles from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota put Liverpool 5-1 in front. Darwin Nunez came off the bench to make it six late on in the match.

And Carragher said afterwards: "I’ve never been convinced with the goalkeeper - I know he’s a young player, (Marcelo) Bielsa brought him up from the Championship and he was young then, maybe 20. He was good on the ball using his feet but he’s got no presence. It looks like you’ve got a kid in goal.

"I’ve always felt that. Okay, he’s a young goalkeeper making his way, but I’ve never felt convinced with him at all, and the defenders that they’ve got individually are really poor. Really poor, they make big mistakes every time they play."
