Jamie Carragher names his Premier League manager of the Year - if season stops right now

Jamie Carragher says Sheffield United's Chris Wilder would be his pick to be named Premier League Manager of the Year following his success at Bramall Lane.

The individual award recognises the work done by those in the dugout and few have received more plaudits than Wilder.

Carragher, who spent his entire career at Anfield, gave special mention to Jurgen Klopp.

The German has presided over a relentless year that has seen Liverpool drop just five points.

They were champions in waiting prior to the postponement of the football season, but the Blades still had plenty to play for.

After being promoted as Championship runners-up last term Sheffield United are challenging for a place in next season's Champions League.

Only three clubs have lost fewer games than them this season as they battle the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United for a seat at Europe's top table.

And Carragher believes that level of over achievement is why the 52-year-old should pick up the award.

"Without a doubt, you could look at Jurgen Klopp if he brings the title back to Liverpool," he told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

"Is Liverpool winning the league off the back of last year and coming so close and winning the Champions League as big an achievement as Sheffield United coming into the Premier League, expecting to be in a relegation fight and being very close to Champions League positions?

"If the season played out, I think they've actually got a game in hand on Manchester United and if they won they'd go above United and who knows what will happen with City next season?

"They're a team that are fighting for Champions League positions, they haven't spent much, even compared to the other promoted teams really.

"I actually think Chris Wilder should be manager of the season if the finished now - or if they went one better and overtook Manchester United with that game in hand and finished the season strongly.

"It's a story that we don't see as often as we did before. Yes, we had Leicester a few years ago which is a story that won't be matched or beaten but in terms of teams coming up and challenging for Champions League positions, I think it's an unbelievable job that Chris Wilder has done."
