Jamie Carragher mocks Gary Neville ahead of opening of Man Utd legend's hotel

Jamie Carragher poked fun at Gary Neville's brief managerial career on social media ahead of the opening of the former Manchester United player's new hotel.

The footballing world was shocked when Neville was appointed Valencia manager in 2015 despite not having any prior experience in the job.

It was not a particularly successful period, however, and he was sacked just three months later after a record of just ten wins in 28 games, a spell which included a humiliating 7-0 loss to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.

Neville and Carragher are now colleagues on Sky Sports, and former Liverpool full-back Carragher saw the opportunity to make fun of his once-rival when a promotional picture of Neville appeared on Twitter .

The picture is of Neville standing in his new hotel with the caption "His stock is rising" next to it.

Carragher tweeted saying: "Not in La Liga! WTF @GNev2" along with a sick emoji.

Supporters reacted with hilarity on Twitter, with one saying "brilliant banter", although another added a cheeky dig at Carragher by tweeting "he won the same amount of spanish league titles as you won english premier league titles."

Carragher and Neville caused hilarity when their reactions to the goals during United's 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday were caught on camera.

As you would expect, both players still have strong ties towards their former clubs, and their reactions were somewhat varied to Marcus Rashford's first-half strike and Adam Lallana's late equaliser.

The duo now often poke fun at each other on Sky Sports (@SkySportsPL/Twitter)

Carragher made headlines on Monday night when he apologised to Patrice Evra on Sky Sports for wearing a T-shirt in support of Luis Suarez after the former Liverpool player racially abused the Frenchman in 2011.

"There is no doubt we made a massive mistake; that was obvious," he said.

"Apologies. We got it massively wrong."
