Jamie Carragher mocks Gary Neville after Manchester United's Champions League exit

Jamie Carragher couldn’t resist taking aim at Gary Neville on social media after Manchester United were dumped out of the Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side travelled to Germany knowing a point would be enough to seal a spot in the knockout stages of the competition.

However, two early goals left United on the back foot and they eventually succumbed to defeat, despite a late fightback in the final 10 minutes.

And Carragher couldn’t resist taking aim at his fellow Sky Sports pundit when United went 3-0 down in the game.

He wrote on Twitter: “#ChampionsLeague @GNev2 “They’ve not backed the manager”” followed by two laughing face emojis.

While a video posted by CBS Sports, the television company Carragher was covering the match for, showed the former Reds defender on the edge of his seat as United went close in the dying stages of the game.

Speaking after the game, United boss Solskjaer said: "We weren't good enough in a difficult group.

“We started really well, but obviously the big turning point or the big defeat for us was the one away to Istanbul.

“That was the one that you look back at and think that is where we lost the points which we should have had.

"Today we were close, but we knew we had to defend crosses, knew we had to defend balls in the box and we just couldn't clear them."

Liverpool have already qualified into the Champions League last 16 from their group, with one match to play against FC Midtjylland on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to rest a number of key stars for the game which will have no impact on either team's standing in the competition.
