Jamie Carragher makes new Liverpool top-four prediction as Reds get back to winning ways

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher believes it's tough to imagine the Reds finishing in the top four this season, despite their win over Wolves.

Jurgen Klopp's side emerged victorious after their trip to Molineux after Diogo Jota's first-half goal earned them three points.

The defending champions had been in a dire spell of form, having lost six of their last seven league games.

But their win against Wolves propelled them back into contention for the top four, and they now sit just five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.

However, Carragher believes it's still unlikely that they'll be able to overturn the gap and finish in the Champions League spots.

He said: "It's been a freak [season] and the teams [they've lost too].

"At this moment, I still believe Liverpool will miss out on the top four.

"However, they need to make teams like Leicester and Chelsea nervous and see what they can do.

"With four or five games to go, they need to be in a position where they can jump at any mistakes the teams above them make."

Speaking after the game, Jota declared he felt it was "massive" to close the gap with the top four, and that he believes Liverpool have found their form again.

"We hope [the team is hitting top form].

"Of course we work for that and now with two clean sheets [and] two victories it’s really good and now we have the break for the international teams but it’s football.

“Massive," he said of the importance of the three points against Wolves.

"Like I said, I think we needed to win and grab points, that was the most important because we have been struggling in the Premier League and we want to change that.”

Liverpool will now face a two-and-a-half week break before their next league outing against Arsenal, a game which will be vital to their top four hopes.
