Jamie Carragher makes Manchester United front three claim after Man City victory

Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United’s performance in the opening 30 minutes of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City was the best he’s seen a side play against Pep Guardiola’s side - and lauded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's front three.

United dealt a crushing blow to City's title hopes after recording a fine 2-1 win at the Etihad, with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both scoring in the opening half-an-hour.

The win was the Reds' second in five days after beating Tottenham at Old Trafford in their previous outing and Carragher believes when United's front three - Rashford, Martial and Daniel James - play like they did at the weekend then they are as good as City’s.

“I think it’s the best 30 minutes I have seen anyone play against Manchester City for the past three years,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

“Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League game certainly did well but this was at the Etihad, this was away, and I thought it was devastating and it was Man United going at their best.

“When United’s front three run forward and are playing like that, they are as good as the City three or the Liverpool three, they’re just not consistent enough and that is the problem. But at the weekend they were out of this world.”
