Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has offered up his take on the Lionel Messi transfer situation amid links with a move to the Premier League.
Messi has handed in a transfer request at Barcelona after a dismal season for the Spanish giants as they were hammered 8-2 in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by Bayern Munich and missed out on the La Liga title.
The Argentine's desire to leave has led to links with Man City, Manchester United, Chelsea and even Liverpool but Carragher insists that Pep Guardiola's men stand the best chance of securing the 33-year-old's services.
But Carragher would just like to see the six-time Ballon d'Or winner in the Premier League regardless of where he was to end up.
Asked if he wants to see Messi in the Premier League, Carragher said : "I hope so, I do. I would love to see Messi in the Premier League. I want to watch him, I want to analyse him on Monday Night Football and all of those things.
"The obvious place he can only go is Man City. With the history he has got with the manager and the financial clout that club have got, I don't think Liverpool would go near that situation financially.
"Also because of the way Liverpool play, they are a lot more energetic than City. City are much more technical and that may suit Messi a bit more.
"But how you get that deal across the line with the figures involved, I'm not sure.
"It's mind-blowing."
