Jamie Carragher makes Jurgen Klopp prediction ahead of Liverpool semi-final

Jamie Carragher thinks Jurgen Klopp will be tempted to rest players if Liverpool reach the Champions League semi-final .

He says that the fans' desire to end their 29-year title wait will see them prioritise the Premier League - even if they get through their quarter final.

The Reds face Porto on Tuesday night and their former central defender claims Europe almost certainly comes second in their thinking.

He said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football "I think the big decision both managers will have, or at least Jurgen Klopp will have, is the Champions League semi-final.

"Pep will still go strong, we know that, but it will be a big thing - what will Jurgen Klopp do?

Gary Neville disagrees with Man Utd fans over Man City and Liverpool scenario

"In a big semi-final, with a league game coming up, when he knows how much the league means to the supporters.

"It's a big decision. If Liverpool are in pole position for the league, I would have no problems with him resting players.

"The league is the most important thing for Liverpool."

Carragher thinks his old team will be champions - but predicts they will drop points on the final day.

Gary Neville reveals why Liverpool's title charge is different from 2013/14

The 41-year-old reckons former manager Rafa Benitez could come back to haunt the Reds with his Newcastle side - but says they'll still do the business.

"I think Liverpool will get to the Champions League semi-final, and I think the Newcastle game will be in between two games against either Barcelona or two games against Manchester United ," Carragher said on Sky.

"So I don't think it'll be an easy game, and Rafa Benitez as a manager, the way he sets up, he'll make it difficult for Liverpool."

Liverpool training: 5 things we noticed ahead of Champions League clash

"People might say, 'oh, he's an ex-Liverpool manager, he'd like to see Liverpool win the league', he might, I don't know, but I'm not sure really.

"If he'd won the league himself he might say, 'OK, you can win one', but I don't think he'll want Jurgen doing something he hasn't done, maybe.

"I don't think there'll be any favours, and I think the way Rafa sets up tactically, he could go five at the back, and it will be difficult for Liverpool to play."
