Jamie Carragher admits he isn’t surprised that Tottenham have struggled to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window.
With talisman Harry Kane still sidelined due to a hamstring problem until April, Jose Mourinho has been linked with several forwards ahead of the 11pm cut off.
Giovani Lo Celso has made his loan move from Real Betis to Spurs permanent, while Steven Bergwijn has also arrived from PSV Eindhoven for £27 million.
However, with England captain Kane not expected to return to action until the very end of the 2019/2020 season at the earliest, another recruit in attacking quarters has proved elusive.
And according to Carragher, there are no prizes for guessing the reason why.
"That has been a problem for Tottenham for a while (signing a back-up for Kane)," Carragher told Sky Sports.
"When you have a player who is so good and doesn’t play in any other position, it’s difficult to have a back-up for that.
"The player they need to sign will automatically know they will be on the bench when Harry Kane is back fit.
"It won’t be something which goes away that. It will be something that they will have to rectify in the summer.
"Kane is great when he’s fit, but every season he does have injuries and they will have to sort out that problem."
