Jamie Carragher believes Freddie Ljungberg will want to be in the mix for the Arsenal job after collecting his first win as caretaker boss.
Ljungberg was placed in temporary charge following the sacking of Unai Emery at the end of November.
And he has been linked with the job on a permanent basis.
After a draw and a defeat in his opening two games, the former Gunners winger finally secured his first three points after goals from Gabriel Martinelli, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang handed his side a 3-1 win over West Ham United.
Carragher believes although Ljungberg still has work to do, he will be hopeful of his name being on the club’s shortlist.
"I’m sure he will want to be in the mix,” Carragher said on Monday Night Football after the game.
"Arsenal will be delighted that they’ve won tonight but fans, before they scored that first goal, will have been saying that it is exactly what they are used to watching.
“Before the game, I liked the team, Pepe in there, Tierney at left-back, and they’re the players they bought in the summer.
“I think the real Arsenal fans know that there is still a lot of work to do - that’s not just for Ljungberg, that’s for any manager.
“It’s definitely a step in the right direction, both results wise and with the team, but I felt for the first hour that there was a lot of worrying aspects.”
