Jamie Carragher believes Joe Gomez faces the prospect of being dropped for the Merseyside derby after his disappointing display against Aston Villa.
The Reds suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season after being completely ripped apart by Dean Smith’s side on Sunday night.
Mohamed Salah scored twice but Jurgen Klopp’s side shipped seven goals as they fell to a 7-2 defeat at the hands of the Lions.
Speaking during the game, Carragher claimed that Liverpool's determination to try and catch teams offside is costing them at least one chance a game.
While both Gomez and Virgil van Dijk struggled up against hat-trick hero Ollie Watkins throughout.
Gomez eventually made way for Curtis Jones in the second half, with Fabinho dropping back into defence with Van Dijk.
It was the same set-up the Reds used when they claimed all three points at Chelsea last month, and Carragher believes it could be one used for the Merseyside derby a week on Saturday.
"I just wonder about it going forward with the performance of Gomez and the performance of Fabinho at Chelsea," he told Sky Sports.
"Certainly, with Henderson to come back in, you would expect Thiago to come back in.
"For the Everton game, you wonder if it would be something they would stick with.
"Maybe take Gomez out for a couple of weeks and give him a breather. He has done brilliant for Liverpool, no doubt.
“But you just think since they came back, a few goals conceded since the restart, the Leeds game, you cannot forget about that, and here [last night]."
